Why rent when you can own?

The latest market surveys show average apartment rents in Pierce County are $1,000 for 2 bedrooms, and $1,400 for 3 bedrooms. With mobile home lot rents in Pierce County ranging from $450 to $680 per month, owning and living in a manufactured home is 1/2 the price of renting! Never has there been a time when manufactured housing made more sense. It is true affordable housing. There are 2 strategies:

  • Buy all cash and only pay the monthly lot rent. With the savings over continuing to pay apartment rent, your home will pay for itself in rent savings typically in 2-4 years. (Many people use this strategy to live affordably and get ahead in life: whether paying down debt, or saving up for the downpayment on a traditional house with land. And you can sell your home when it’s time to move, which is more than you can say for your rent receipts!) Does that sound like a smart financial move?
